Hailey Elizabeth Hodsden was born in Austin, Texas, on July 5, 1999. She was the 3rd of eight children and the oldest daughter. She died on 1 August 2023 in a training accident in Grafenwoehr, Germany, while serving as a Scout Platoon Leader in the 2nd US Cavalry Regiment. She's followed in the footsteps of her parents, Scott and Julie Hodsden, both USMA '90 and her older brothers SGT Scott Hodsden, Jr. and Luke Hodsden USMA 2020. Her younger brother Maximilian is USMA 2024.
Hailey was a 2017 Dripping Springs High School and a 2021 United States Military Academy at West Point Graduate. While at West Point she was as integral member of the Women's Army Rugby team (WAR) and very involved in Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) though Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Hailey's love was limitless, encompassing God, her family, her boyfriend, Matthew Delaney, the Army, her rugby teammates and her many close friends. Her impact as an officer was profound, setting a high standard of professionalism, proficiency, and approachability. She not only cared for the people she served with, but she loved them. Her zest for life was infectious as she embraced its various facets: books, art, sports, travel, history, nature, and music. With her fiery red hair and witty comebacks, she was a beacon of positivity, always finding the silver lining in the darkest situations. Hailey's faith as a Catholic was unwavering, and she was confident in her eternal destination.
